I think the various attempts at the Geelong line evolved into vapourware :P

Not true!
I built the Geelong line as a addon to my Ballarat route.
Was almost up to release stage but I got sidetracked and to tell the truth havent a clue where it is.
It must be on one of the many CDs I have scattered around the house but dunno where or which one.
You must remember I moved halfway across the country to Qld from Vic and still havent fully unpacked yet.

If you ever find the Geelong route let us know Russell, what era did you set it in, hopefully around the 70s

This is off-topic and I apologise, but that accident was actually quite sad from the point of view of the lady who passed away (Mrs. Cini). Unfortunately I have lost his email address through a crash (so if you're Googling this again, Mick, I apologise). I was sending emails and talking to her son about the accident's causes...

Last weekend I decieded to have a go at. I,m already started to makeing up this route, This is the first time Im haveing a go of makeing the Geelong Line, I already started from the other side of Geelong, actually I started about a few kms other side of Waurn Ponds. With a little help from Steam4me sight, and Google Earth was a big help. Due to work and other things this Route won,t be made a hundred miles an hour. With a long weekend coming, I will be hopefully making it into Geelong. And over the summer break the line will be heading to Melbourne.

I did start doing a Maldon route ages ago. It has since vanished into a black hole.

Hi R761,
Welcome to the world of route development.
Remember that the MSTS Route Editor is a frustrating beast and that the rules say:-
1. Save every 10 minutes.
2. Close the window and restart RE every 20 minutes.
3. Reboot the computer every hour.
Even with these mandatory controls in place, you will still have unexpected calls to Bill. However, they will minimise the frequency.
There is a wealth of expertise on this site and don't forget to search the Steam4Me tutorials for guidance - the range is probably the best on the Planet.
Cheers

Building a route is not easy as I found out a little but I'm haveing a go at it.. I have been saveing it. due to my normal work I can not work on the line till I get home and send about an hour or 2. Also hopefully I will be doing some screen shots as I go.

Hi R761
Have you got Michael Vone's book "step by step to Route Building"? It costs $20 or so and is the best investment you could ever make as a budding route builder. It is available from Abacus.

You will avoid a lot of problems if you stick to the following order:-
1. Lay all of your track and ensure that the terrain and track are firmly bedded down. Test with a train in both directions every couple of miles or so. It is good to have an experienced builder have a look at the route early on so that any problems are caught early, thus avoiding bigger problems later. Avoid using Dynamic track except where absolutely necessary fo fill a short gap quickly. Avoid it in laying the main line. Excessive use of it will eventually compromise the route.

2. Lay all of your roads and ensure that they and the track are firmly bedded down.
If you don't have everything bedded down, you will find that your scenery items will either be partly buried or sitting some some feet above ground. You will add a lot of unnecessary work if you are tempted to start laying scenery items before all the track and roads are laid.

3. Add scenery items - trees, fences, buildings, station buildings and platforms, telephone poles, etc, etc.

4. Add Interactive items - Platforms, Fuel/Water fillers, Platforms, Sidings, Level Crossings, etc
Test, test and test. Have several beta testers go over the route.

5. The last thing you do is signalling!
More beta testing!

Cheers
