G'day All,
Hoping someone might be able to tell me the standard height for Melbourne Suburban Platforms.
Cheers,
Stevo

RRRRRREEEEEEAAAAAALLLLLLLYYYYYYYYY late reply are well......

Sorry for the mixed standards here.

Height is 105 cm's above top of rail, Platform edge is 47 inches from centre line of track. This comes direct from W&W people working on platform at Seymour.

47 inches for the platform edge to centre line of track is clearly an error, the value is 57 inches. Values of 57 to 58 inches are usual in platforms I have measured. Intrestingly this includes the measurements for the old ash pit found under the track on the platform road at Chiltern during the broadgauge conversion project. In that case it was 58.25 inches. (I have done complete measurements and drawings of this pit in case anyone is interested) This pit probably dates back near to the beginnings of railways in Aus.
One of the John Holland workers told me the pit was not even on the old plans of Chiltern.
