We're on dialup, & using GetRight, but after I save them to the required spot, come back to them later on, or the next day, a message (for example the Nth. Sydney Trams & Seymour routes) comes up saying
Quote:
"The file was not found on the server. The URL used was: XYZ.(ext used)

Hi Newcastle Flyer,
I have found lately that Trainsim.com will not resume downloads.

One thing you could try with other sites is to go back to the original download page and try the download again
and see if Getright will resume from where it left off previously.

Just tried one of the Nth. Sydney Trams downloads from here and Getright says there is no resumption.

Regards Geoff.

None of the hosting sites I use allow for download resumption for non premium users of the hosting site.

A few years ago when I had dialup, I used DAP for my downloads, and discovered on trainsim.com that when you login you get a unique 8-digit code. This features in the URL of the download, and when you login again, naturally it's different. Advice was given to me that before you resume the download, you should alter the code to your new one.

I have no idea if this will work now, this was a while ago.

Oh can't Micr$$oft design a browser that doesn't close accidently when half way through a post :x

How come you don't host on the UK Train sim site - at least resuming is allowed over there.

If people haven't already, this might come in handy - The Mitchell Library in Sydney has various tram timetables from around the 1940's - 50's, includes all the tram stops in operation at the time.

Yeah & a lot of the broadband plans that we come across uploads are now counted, when they weren't originally. The ISP's are getting as bad as the oil barrons, I mean companies - greedy.

Slightly off-topic (Okay would you believe more than slighthly off-topic) but related.

We do have two in mind, but both have catches, both are from the same ISP. (disregarding costs such as modems, etc)

One plan is a $180 set up free, 12GB for $49.95p/month, no contract, uploads not counted. The next one is 75GB/$49.95p/month. Catch is 24 month mininum, uploads are now counted in the monthly quota - & I was told that uploads include just looking at websites. I told though that uploads will only count 1 - 3% towards your quota.

If I wanted to host on Uktrainsim, Steam4me or trainsim.com I would but I don't want to.
I don't like anyone else in charge of my content plus I don't like waiting 6 to 12 months for a model to be released.

I don't like this line of questioning.

Now as for the part about paying for web hosting why should I.
If anything the end users should shout me as I build the content why should I pay for the privilege of others of whom the majority don't give thanks or anything. (Not pointing the finger at any active members of course as you are the ones who make this work.)

Others and Myself have worked hard in producing AU content keeping it free, I cannot do much more than this other than going back to producing nothing but payware.

I didn't mention anything about hosting a website. That was refering to myself about broadband choices. For that matter, I suppose I can go to a public computer (library) etc, and download from there - but their broadband is slow. Just got to be a bit more careful if so.

Hi Newcastle Flyer,
You talk about 12Gb and 75Gb and I suggest that if you are downloading those amounts over dialup, it is costing you big time - much bigger than having broadband. In the case of 75Gb, you are probably spending more than 27 hours a day downloading.
TPG (for example) has 8Gb for $29.95 per month. 8Gb is a huge amount to use in a month, and at $29.95 it has to be very competitive with the amount you would be paying for that amount of download under dialup.
I feel confident that some further examination of broadband costs and the actual amount of your downloads versus your dialup costs may well pay dividends - if only to allay some of the frustrations you are currently experiencing .
Cheers

That's odd, resuming is working for the QR Electric loco on Megaload - sometimes resuming on M/load works, sometimes not.

Nope, not really as our dial up plan has unlimited up/downloads - (I hope I don't give the ISP any ideas) - but naturally we try to restrict

While TPG has some good GB per month deals, but as for their customer service, no comment!. . . Was told all their call centres are in Australia, then she said we do have some call centres in Asia

If our ISP didn't have a over the top set up free with the no contract, and more webspace, we would probably use that plan.
