Throughout the cause of this project, I will be updating hopefully daily my progress.
I will post screenshots here, and my first few may be up tonight, or otherwise tomorrow morning.

As I have already mentioned, Phase one has begun and is just about complete!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Progress so far: Removal of old and now-non-existent sidings.
Changing platform textures to more modern textures.
Upgrading signals: I have problems with this, I will speak more about it in a few lines time.
Upgrading level crossings. No more gates for crossings - just booms.
Grade separation of the Camp Road level crossing.
Car Spawners. Problem here as well.
Removal of Platform 11 tack at FSS and remoal of Port Melbourne and St Kilda viaduct.
Static trains.

Phase 2 will include:
extension of Spencer street to have 14 platforms.
extension of lines from FSS to Jolimont.
extension of track to Richmond.
construction of Underground City Loops. This may be complicated so bear with me. I will ask how to make a track slope down to the loop tunnels.
The portals will be at: North Melbourne Plat1/2/3/4, SSS Platform 9/10/12. Richmond Junction and Jolimont.

OK. Now I will get to the problems:
1. The signals(from the Melbourne to Ballarat route) showing up as white instead of green and red.
2, every time I try to lay track, it never joins up to the other side; always uneven.
3. Car Spawners not functioning properly

Help will be much appreciated ith these problems.

--------screenshots may be up tonight or tomorow---------

Have you installed signals before? Install a couple of them and get them working before installing them everywhere. You must also have a red triangle appearing on the track to be signalled, or MSTS will again recognise them as static objects. NEVER put them within 15 metres of 0 degree ponts or you will risk runring into trouble

It's a process of trial and error. Only experience wil fill you on this on the bulk of these sort of issues

Please elaborate. This bit of info tells us nothing

DONT select animate for signals.
athough you will need to set the path for signals as per the tutorial on Steam4me.
Its all there in the tutorial.

First screenshots will be up tonight.

I need to fix all these problems before moving to the complicated Phase 2.

I have also selected possible release date, but I will need Russel's permission to release it first.

THE APPROX RELEASE WILL BE EARLY TO MID AUGUST OR EARLIER IF I AM LUCKY

Thanks to all who have helped so far, this would not be possible if not for you guys.

With the car spawners , the cars only appear and disappear, not even crossing the level crossing.

I'd forget the release date for now, and focus on getting familarised with each aspect of the dreaded RE.

Cars in MSTS are merely non-animated objects MSTS drags across from one point to another. In order to facilitate this, you must click on the blue triangle and drag it a mile or so down the road. There is a line within a spawner that you'll see moving towards or away from the camera. This line must be travelling in the direction opposite to the one you want the cars to travel in.

I applaud many of our MSTS creating routes for times such as the 1950s but its also good to see the modern times represented which still have much to offer such as the inclusion of underground railways.

So if permission can be gained from Russel and if you are successful in your endeavours Hayden I shall greatly look forward to driving through Melbourne's City Loop.

First screenshots are HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Hitachi static train in Broadmeadows siding. Notice new sky texture and the grass texture, similar to the Mel Bal route.

Grade seperation of the camp road level crossing at Broadmeadows.

B74-S300 and VR pass cars on an up SOP from Seymour pauses at Broadmeadows, with Hitachi in the siding.

That problem I have with the signals. If anyone knows what to do, please let me know.

B74-S300 and VR pass cars on an up SOP powers through the new Glenroy Road level crossing. Notice the new platfor texture up at Glenroy.

Just to answer a few questions:
Spencer Street will remain as Spencer Street, but have 14 platforms.
Flinders Street will also have the underground platforms.
Spencer Street will remain as Spencer Street not Southern Cross.
The route is set in 1987, so no Port Melbourne and St Kilda line.

The only trains I can think of to fill up yards are Comengs and Hitachis, I don't think Harrises were around after 1986, besides I don't have them anyway.
Phase two is begining as of this evening.

I need to know how to make a track go downwards to enter the City Loop tunnels. I will be adding the tunnels using the London Underground style.

MORE UPDATES AND SCREENIES SOON!

I'm sorry to hear that your computer crashed but don't give up on trying mate we all believe that you will get it Very Happy I would like to see you try again but using a new route template and then copy all of the tiles from Russell's route to the new route you never know it might work

You obviously didn't do a CD or external HD backup? Buy yourself one or the other or both if you intend to do any computer based long term projects. There must be somewhere where you can score a good deal. It is not just vital, but integral, and fundamental

You say the route is based in 1987 so your not having st kilda or port melbourne lines... Well untill October during that year, those two lines were still working with trains not trams! hehe im getting technical. Rolling Eyes

Ah yes, St Kilda and Port Melbourne. One Saturday in June 1987, I rode both lines on the regular service for the afternoon, knowing they were going to close. A refurbed Harris was used, and I was the only passenger in my carriage each trip. I can see why they changed, considering the traffic levels.

That day I also rode the vintage tram service, operated by W1 427 for a couple of hours. Great fun!

Cheers,
Matt
