Superheat,
Thanks for that explanation.I will give you a SHOUT if I get stuck.

I don’t use TSM myself so I may not be able to provide answers to some of your questions. Most of the 3D modellers in these forums use TSM so I am sure that any one of them will be able to assist you with any specific TSM issues you may have.

You,if I read it right are working on a WA route. To me there is a great need for a Perth route and rolling stock.

Yes I agree with you. If only someone would step up to the plate, rise to the occasion, pick up the baton, you get the idea. Stew Winston has built quite a few items of WA locos and rolling stock and these are available from train-sim.com.
A route based around the Nullarbor straight would be a no brainer and the curve and gradient profile is/was available for download for this route.

Also a route depicting the mining industry. It would be great to haul a 2 or 3 klm ore train around.I have made up some consists of just under 300 locos/waggons.
Also I saw on the "Tube" a video of an Australian train that took around 6-8 mins to pass by!

I am building part of BHP Billiton’s Mt Newman line from MAC to Funicane Island. I normally drive 2 rake trains as anything longer is limited by the MSTS 2km draw limit. Also the longer the train the slower MSTS gets and it is not due to the number of polygons.
As a test for MSTS I built the world record train of 21 June 2001 which comprised 8 AC6000CW locomotives distributed through 682 ore cars. Length of train 7.353km weighing 99,732 tonnes. Frame rates in MSTS dropped to low single digits but seemed to drive OK until I did a minimum brake set which stopped the train but then the brakes would not release. MSTS physics do not scale well with very long trains.
Long drags are not everyones cup of tea but if you wish to ‘simulate’ driving these long trains, MSTS can give a reasonable representation. You don’t just stick them in run 8 and stare out the window.
Good luck with your modelling and most of all have fun.
Marek.

Hi all,
I have taken a break from model creation to allow the things I have learn't to sink in.Instead I have been working on creating night cabs and I am happy to say I can now add a Msts bin Night Cab to those that have none. The loco I have been working on is the SAR 500 Steamys and I am pleased that the night view has a glow from the fire box.
Regards Geoff

Hi All,
Here are a few screenshots of a model that I created a couple of years ago using Train Sim modeler. It's a QR ICE train. I had a little trouble at first, but managed to get it working in the Sim.
Here it is in Original QR livery:
Here it is again, this time in corporate livery with ditch lights:
Unfotunately, due to my lack of knowledge with adding lights, they don't actually turn on.
Also, I tried my luck at creating a QR EMU. However, I could only find one screenshot.
Unfortunately I became too busy to work on these and they are now sitting on my laptop hard drive gathering dust.
Thanks
Jamie

The ICE and EMU are hard shapes to do.
The SMU is driving me nuts trying to get the front texture mapping just right.
I am going to have a go at a photo skinned ICE train as I think that they look rather classy.

Update #5
Thanks to all who have brought out their early attempts at Msts models.
It seems to be getting easier to use Trainsim Modeler.
I have completed the first part of the tute. Now to have another go at extruding.
Just some pics ,I have been playing around with textures.
.
Regards Geoff

Update #6
Hi,
I finally solved the problem I had with point work.I can now select and move points.
Re read the manual and realised what I had to do to select the points I wanted to move.
It is good when you are making progress.
Made this up from a box and tube.

Remember that you can select more than one point or group of points by holding down the SHIFT key.
Something I didn't know until I had been using TSM for 2 years.

Holding down CTRL + SHIFT and you can select any points or polys without having to click on the mouse select button. Found that out a few months ago

Point manipulation is really quite easy.
Make up a box with 4 sections high x 4 wide x 4 in lenght now go into point mode and select a point or a group of points and move or scale them around and watch the wierd and wonderfuls shapes that it can become.
This is the main modeling method in 3d and allows for greater shapes than just using part primitives. _________________

It wont be long now before you are building a fleet!
It appears you are picking up the basics quite well.

You are right there Russell.

Once I created my stone slab all I wanted to do was to make a waggon for it.
Now I have done much more than that and I have got to thank all of you for the help.
Thanks Geoff.

Amwleis, if you are using the wheelset that mrdriver posted some time ago, after converting the model into MSTS, overwrite the converted "Ace" file with the one from Russ's download, then the wheels will be transparent instead of the blue background.
Cheers,
Wayne
