Pardon my ignorance if i have over looked a layout, but how about a modern NSW or VIC layout that has plenty of modern freigt activities. I love the current Adelaide Hills layout but i cant drive a fricken steam loco. If it was swapped for a couple of ELs or NRs, i reckon some people would get more enjoyment out of MSTS.

Regards
Deano'

P.S sorry to all the steam loving fans i just abused

Turn on the Automatic Fireman in MSTS and it is easy to drive a Steam Loco,
Maybe it is not quite as realistic as doing everything yourself, but at least you get to experience the Activities and also the Steam Loco era, without all the hard work.

Modern activities on a modern route. Could be a little boring as most of the sidings would be missing and modern railways are point to point.
Just drive and go then stop.
Cheers Russ

Driving a steam loco is an art and the best results are after practice.
Start in 75 percent full gear and notch it back towards 40 to 30 percent as the speed increases.
Use the throttle and the reverser together to keep steam usage less than steam generation.
Bring the reverser back towards 40 -50 percent on heavy grades and use the throttle to keep steam usage in line with generation.

i dont see whats so bad about steam. anywho if there is something bad, as said you dont have to be just running steamers when using that route just because of its period its based on.. there were diesels in the 50s in which it was based anyway.. run modern ones too if you like its not going to stop it from working Surprised Twisted Evil
