It's not possible to open an .s file in TSM. It will only open .dst project files and .dsp part files.

But some people say that they will edit textures and stuff using TSM?
How can this be when you are saying they can't.
I am really confused here.
Do I save the shape file as a dst. or.....
PLEASE! i need some help here.
I need to either edit an EMU shape or create one myself. I want to know how I can re edit the textures and add extra animations and stuff.
Or else I want to know how I would be able to build a Siemens Train for MSTS.

Hi Hayden,
You can save the entire project or you can save individual parts.
When you select the file dropdown box and save as that will save the model as a TSM project file".dst".
When you chose the part drop down box and create part file merge list that saves the project but as individual parts".dsp".
If you want to use one of these parts on another model you can load it and use it on the new model.
At least that is how it works for me.

They probably created the model and have the original project files.

I don't really understand what you want to do. Do you want to reskin/repaint an existing model or make a new model from scratch?

There are some tutorials at Steam4Me if you want to reskin/repaint. To build a new model, the TSM help file explains how to build a loco, 4 wheel wagon and some scenery objects.

Don't jump in head first and build a complex model as your first project. Start off with a building or small wagon and work up from there.

I agree with Rowie.
As you can see from my screen shots I started with the main part and built the pilot and the steps, then added the body
,cab, nose.Even though I have added the wheels I am still to learn how to animate them.
As I added parts and textured them eventually the model had to many polys and would not run in the sim.
I have gone back to the start but thats Ok as I have saved the parts and can reuse them.

It is possible to do some minor shape file editing using Shape File Manager, but that mainly just rescaling. It is also possible to rename the textures that a shape file requires. This is helpful if you want to apply a different colour scheme to a model but you want to keep the original as well.

More info on Shape File Manager at Yuri's Steam4Me site;
http://steam4me.railpage.org.au/trainsi ... m_faq.html

Those of us who build models in TSM are ofen open to repaints and shape modifications, so if you want a variation of a model built, contact the creator and see what can be done.

Cheers,
Matt
