Present Update.
I got a little carried away lately and have laid all the track on the Maryborough stage now just to add the structures..
The main line status is currently at Albion, Not far to go now! :D
As I had to make new overhead gantries to suit the UKFinescale track I decided to go the whole hog and design a overhead system to boot.
I think you will agree it makes quite a difference from the ad hoc default wires.
Gee Look at that overhead!

Great job on this route Russell driven it from one end to the other.Love the bush section not far from Daylesford on your way back to the main line. I am sure the line to Maryborough will be just as good.

The overhead gantries look fantastic it would be good to see you
Incorporate this into the North Eastern Mainline route as well.

Keep up the Exellent work
cheers
Brian

Heya Russ,
How did you get the overhead wires to show up like that instead of the default single wire?

Hi Sav they are a 3D shape.
This is the only way you can get proper catenery in MSTS plus I don't have to worry about the hassle of hidewire.

The shapes go in quite well in Gantry dat but need a bit of a fiddle with to get the alignment properly.

wow!
I take it that's your secret. :D
If so, then it must be more top secret than KFC's 11 herbs of spices.

If you don't mind me asking,
When you made the wires Russ, did you use the tube tool to do them?,If yes, is the number of sides have to be 3 with open ends with a couple of sections to do it?

Yes Savy I used tube tool to make a triangular wire in 7 sections for the catenery and 1 section for the contact wire.
Droppers are placed at the sections to maintain equal distance.

That is breathtaking work there Russ. You guys constanty impress me with your attention to detail and your success in pushing the realism of MSTS to new heights.

My nephews are gonna love this route as they live in Castlemaine. They nearly wet themselves with excitement when they got to run a mixed goods from Castlemaine to Bendigo, and they'll go nuts when they can run to Maldon in the sim, as they're regulars on the VGR.

Cheers,
Matt

The Harris is something I have been improving over the last 3 or 4 years.
Every time I work on it it just looks better and better.
Next step is to build 3D bogies and a bit more panto detail.

Albion Pre 1960 before the overpass went in.
The Ballarat Rd crossing was a set of hand gates back then.
You can just see the gate keepers hut in the pic.

Something has seriously gone wrong with the Sunshine tile in the route resulting in me having to go back 10 days with the backup.
the dreaded send dont send message is appearing when I re enter the sunshine tile.

I might finish St Albans to Gisborne and go for the release with that, then go piece by piece making hourly backups with the sunshine section.

Hi Russell
Its a pity you cant just grab the Sunshine tile from your Ballarat route
and copy and paste it on. I am sure the line so far from Gisbourne to StAlbans would still be a good run. Dont pull to much hair out.

cheers
Brian

Anyone can make mistakes Russell. What actually happened if you don't mind disclosing?

I dont appear to have lost as much as I thought.
It turns out that the High Voltage transmission gantries are a bit dicey shapewise.

I went to a newer backup 4 days ago and copied the tiles and world files out of the route so I had a backup that would crash.
Then I went to sunshine (I could open sunshine its just if I left the tile then returned it would send dont send) and deleted a series of shapes with the same name.

Using jumper I would jump to macedon then see if I could jump back to sunshine.

If it crashed I then pasted the tiles and world files back in to bring the route up to crash status and deleted another set of shapes.
I kept repeating this until the route was stable.
I hope this makes sense.
It was nothing but a process of elimination.

I suspect my experiment with a large invisible shape beneath the gantries to fool MSTS into thinking it had a larger than normal volume shere (To defeat the disapearing shape at certain angles problem) was in someways a sucsess in others a failure.
I will redesign the HV shapes to see if I can overcome this or will have to go back to the hit and miss method of manually adjusting the volume spheres.
